Robyn is a practicing Welsh artist currently living and teaching in London. She gained her BA (HONS) in Art Practice at the University of South Wales in 2013 and her MA in illustration from Camberwell College of Art in 2023. 

 

Robyn's practice explores the intersections of folklore, ritual, history and landscape. Informed by the industrial ruins and shifting landscapes of her home, her work draws on imagery that carries traces of the past: fragments of belief, forgotten customs, inherited stories and rituals rooted in the land. Working across silent books, printmaking,  and mixed media, she explores the space between the remembered and the lost, the real and the mythological, evoking a sense of hiraeth and the enduring pull of place.

Her practice is concerned with how traditions persist, disappear and change over time, and how their meanings can be reimagined through image-making. Her recent work centres on the Mari Lwyd, a Welsh midwinter ritual, while her ongoing research extends to other customs and belief systems. She is currently developing a new silent book exploring the tradition of sin-eating, a historical funerary practice in which an individual was believed to absorb the sins of the deceased. Through this growing body of work, Robyn traces cultural remnants, approaching them not as fixed histories, but as fragments of the past that are continually reshaped through time, memory and place.
